University
Our youth ministry has opened the doors on a new weekend ministry for 7th – 10th graders called University. Pastor Bryce Langford is heading up, and teaching at, the new ministry that meets every Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. in the U building. “Blü, our Wednesday night youth ministry, was always intended to be an outreach to the students of Amarillo. However, the idea we have for University is to be a type of reaching in towards the students who are growing up in our church,” said Patrick Burns, associate director of youth ministry. Much like a real university, the goal is to help students learn. Over the course of the next year, the students will be engaged in reading the four Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life and ministry. “They need to understand who Jesus was so they can live that way; so they can be Jesus to somebody who needs Him,” said Burns. University won’t just be a lecture and listen session, however. Each weekend service will be packed with worship, small group activities, teaching, and then a competition between grades will cap off each service. It’s going to be a lot of hands-on fun where each student gets to participate and contribute to the learning. “Every ministry needs to have two sides,” said Pastor Bryce, “One side needs to be discipleship and equipping, and the other side needs to be outreach and evangelism where the disciples can put into practice what they’re learning. I think University is a great complement to Blü in that respect. University won’t take the place of good parenting, but it will join with parents to teach the importance of leading a godly life, and equip students to lead that life,” continued Bryce, “We’re really looking forward to this ministry, and what it can do for the students who are growing up here at Trinity.”
