The Commons

Designed specifically with our youth ministry in mind, the commons will be an exciting place for students to hang out with their friends.

The furnishings and game room are being designed by a top design team with a distinguished resumé.   The lounge will have a coffee shop and will be wired with video games, Internet access, and music stations.  The basketball court will be walled with Plexiglas.  Pool tables, foosball, and other games will draw students of all ages to make Blü the culture spot on Wednesday nights.  However, we think the most appealing aspect of the youth ministry is and always will be students identifying themselves early on with Jesus Christ.

Right now there are more than 30,000 students in the Amarillo area, and the world is competing for the attention of every single one of them.  The language these students understand is advertisements, pop stars, song lyrics and movie quotes.  We aim to present the Gospel to these students in the language they speak, and these facilities will enable us to do that.

Richard Carver is currently designing and building the commons. Richard started his career in 1970 working with national corporations and advertising agencies as a print designer and illustrator. Over the years Richard has acquired over 200 national, regional and local awards for his numerous projects, including the National Gold Quill Award.

As a Television Art Director, Richard has worked on over 500 national, regional and local television spots providing set design, special effects and the creation of props. When he's not on the set, he designs interiors for churches and businesses with a creative mind and a knack for creating cost-saving, beautiful spaces. Recently, Richard was instrumental in the design of the newly opened National Oneighty Facility, reaching over 2,500 teenagers a week in Tulsa, OK.
